March 14, 3.14, represents “Pi” day, for the mathematical term used to determine circumference and area of circles.

Centre High staff, students, Emergency Response Career Pathways (ERCP) classes and the Math Department celebrated “Pi” day by raising $2,284.81 for the “Y Strong Kids” campaign for the Don Wheaton “YMCA”. This fundraising event included a pie eating contest, a pie throwing contest and a pie & ice cream sale to raise funds to help less fortunate youth gain access to sports activities and programs for youth at the Don Wheaton “YMCA”. Semester one Emergency Response Career Pathways (ERCP) students have wrapped up their annual COPS FOR CANCER fund raising event. Our first annual bike-a-thon proved to be a phenomenal success. Students, staff and emergency response personnel teamed together in an effort to raise not only money, but to raise cancer awareness.

December 16th proved to be an eventful day; pancake breakfast, head shaving and dying, bike marathon and pizza dinner. Teams of riders took turns cycling stationary bikes continuously for twelve hours to the beat of music and the cheers of fellow supporters including Kerry Nesbitt and members from the Cops for Cancer Triathlon team.

At the end of the day, students and staff raised a total of $20,466.70. Collectively, since our first fundraising event in 2005, the ERCP program has raised over $120,000 for COPS FOR CANCER.
